List your ethnic ancestry as far back as you have knowledge, from both your mother’s and father’s
lineage. - Great Great Granddad was Half African American Half British;
Great Great Grandmother Native American
I consider myself 100% African American. My oldest family member's that I was able to meet before they passed were from New Orleans and Mississippi. I have British and Irish in me from my mother and father's side, but that's way down before my time.
List your religious affiliations and those of your ancestors, again, as far back as you have knowledge. Christian Baptist
List holidays or days of remembrance that you celebrate in your family. Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, 4th of July
Do you identify with any of these for yourself? Describe. Yes, I identify with all of the holidays we celebrate. I was also raised as a Christian, so I believe in the same beliefs that my ancestors did.
Have you, or has anyone in your family, been harassed or victimized because of race, ethnicity, sex,
sexual preference or religious affiliation? Describe. My mother went to a segregated school prior to all schools being integrated during the Jim Crow era. My grandfather and great grandfather served the country as Marines in WW2 and Vietnam.
Do you identify with a given culture than is not addressed in the above questions? Describe. I identify with the youth, innovation, ideas, music, basketball culture, and art.
Do you have friends that cross ethnic, race, religious, gender, or cultural barriers? Describe. Yes. I have numerous friends of different ethnicities that practice different religions (Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist). That does not effect our friendship at all.
Locate a situation of tension in the material generated from these questions. These can include
news, history, media, narrative, fiction and non-fiction. My families history serving this country and still falling victim to racism. I grew up in a different era with different views on things.
